If you think that there is going to be times when you will need to retrieve various things from your self storage unit, you will want to make sure that you are organizing it in the best possible manner. Too many people make the mistake of just throwing things in there, which creates a very unorganized mess that can be extremely difficult to search through. This is why you will want to take the time to review the following points so you can learn how to properly organize your self storage unit.
Leave The Middle Open
This might mean that you will want to rent a slightly larger self storage unit, but the space in the middle is important because you need to be able to walk straight into the unit. When you walk right in to the middle of it, you should then be able to easily reach all three walls that will have stuff against it. Without that pathway into the unit, you will find that it can be near impossible to reach certain things unless you were to start emptying out the storage unit.
Use Tall Shelving Units
Before putting anything else in the storage unit, you will want to line the walls with tall shelving units. You may not be able to secure them to the walls so you will wan to keep all of the heavier items on the bottom half of the shelving units. This is to help prevent the shelves from being top heavy and falling over. You can place lighter items, such as bags of stuffed animals or some lightweight decorations on the top shelves.
Place Furniture Along The Shelves
Sure, some of the shelves might be blocked some because of the furniture, but you can easily adjust things to reach a lower shelf when it is absolutely needed. By placing the furniture along the front of the shelves, you are able to secure the shelves in place, since there usually is not an option to secure anything to the walls of the storage unit. You can then place smaller, more fragile items inside some of your furniture, such as your chests or dressers.
By using those tips and planning ahead, you will find that you are able to keep your self storage unit nice and organized. This will not only make it easy for you to find things when you need them, but it will be easier to remove everything from the storage unit when that time comes.
